<strong>Who Can Enter</strong><br />
Youth who are between 5 and 17 years of age can enter this contest, and it is open to all children and teens in all countries.<br />
<strong>Contest Period</strong><br />
The contest begins on 1 February and ends on 30 April 2012.<br />
<strong>How to Enter</strong><br />
You can draw, paint, sketch, use pens, pencils, crayons, charcoal, oil, acrylic paint or watercolor to create your artwork.Be creative, and use your imagination to show a world free of nuclear weapons, a world without bombs, without wars, without fear.<br />
<strong>Contest Prizes</strong><br />
There will be 4 winners in each age category (ages 5-8, ages 9-12 and ages 13-17), and all the art work entries will be judged using the same criteria: creativity, composition, theme and technique. The winners will be announced before the end of May 2012. For age groups 5-8 and 9-12, the winners will receive wonderful art supplies.<br />
For age group 13-17, there will be cash prizes of $500 for first place, $300 for second place, $200 for third place, and $100 for fourth place.<br />
Each winning entry will also receive a certificate from the United Nations and all winning artwork will be reproduced in a United Nations calendar.<br />

Yapılan araştırmalar gösteriyorki, eğitim programlarımızın içinde yer alan ikinci dil eğitiminde başarı grafiğimiz oldukça düşük. İkinci dil edinimindeki eksikliğimiz her alandaki başarımızı olumsuz yönde etkilemektedir. Eksikliklerimizi bir an önce ortaya çıkarıp, eğitim programlarmızda geniş yer tutan dil derslerinin amacına ulaşması için çok önemli bir dil bilimci olan Stephen Krashen’ın ‘dil edinim’ teorisinin bir kez daha gözden geçirilmesi yararlı olacaktır.</p>
<p><a href="http://neslihandurmusoglu.edublogs.org/files/2012/01/IMG_1837-113tb0i.jpg"><img src="http://neslihandurmusoglu.edublogs.org/files/2012/01/IMG_1837-113tb0i-225x300.jpg" alt="" title="IMG_1837" width="225" height="300" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-727" /></a>1965 yılında kurulmuş olan EF (English First) adlı dil eğitim merkezi her yıl ülkeleri İngilizce yeterlilik sırasına koymaktadır. Bu yıl 44 ülkeden 2 milyonun üstünde kişi bu ölçüm anketine katıldı. Türkiye 44 ülke arasında 43. sırada ve bu durumda İngilizce yeterliliği açısından bir tek Kazakistan’ı geride bıraktığımız görülmekte. <a href="http://www.ef.com.tr/epi/download-full-report/"><strong>Dil yeterlilik grafiğini</strong> </a>incelemek için tıklayın.<br />
Günümüzde eğitim programlarımızın içinde ağırlıklı olarak yer alan ikinci dil eğitiminde, istenilen başarıya ulaşamamış ve hayal kırıklığı yaşayan birçok birey bulunmakta. Bazıları çok çaba ve zaman harcamalarına rağmen öğrenemediklerinden bazıları da dilbilgisi kurallarını iyi bilmelerine ve kelime hazneleri geniş olmasına rağmen akıcı bir şekilde kendilerini ifade edemediklerinden şikayetçi. İkinci dilde başarılı olamayacak birey yoktur, ancak yanlış kullanılan metodlar dil edinimini zorlaştırmaktadır. Eğitim sistemimizin kalitesini yükseltirken, bu sistem içinde yer alan ikinci dil ediniminin de doğal bir süreç halini alması yönündeki çalışmalara ağırlık vermelidir.<br />
Erken çocukluk döneminde(0-6 yaş arası), gençlerin ve yetişkinlerin aksine dil edinimi doğal olarak gelişir. Ayrıca bu dönemdeki çocuklar ana dillerini öğrenebilmeleri için doğuştan gelen dil edinme becerilerini; ikinci bir dil için de eşit oranda kullanabilirler. Bu doğal süreci doğru metodlarla desteklersek çocuklar ikinci dili de bu doğal süreç içinde kazanacaklardır. Küçük yaşta ikinci bir dili doğal olarak edinen çocuklar ilerki hayatlarında başka bir dili öğrenirken de zorlanmamaktadırlar. Ayrıca bu yaşlarda ikinci bir dil öğrenmek çocuğun beynindeki duygusal bölge ve zekaya giden yolları da geliştirir.<br />
Erken çocukluk dönemindeki bu doğal dil edinimi uygun şartlar oluşturulduğunda son çocukluk döneminde (6-12 yaş grubunda) ve hatta her yaşta başarılı sonuçlar verir. Tüm bunlarla bağlantılı olarak ünlü dilbilimci <a href="http://www.sdkrashen.com/"><strong>Stephen Krashen</strong></a>’ın ‘dil edinimi’ ve ‘dil öğrenme’ ayrımlarına göz atarsak; ikisi arasındaki farkı açıkca görürüz.<br />
‘Dil edinimi’ bilinçaltı bir süreçtir . Dilbilgisi kurallarının farkında olmama ancak neyin doğru olduğuna dair ‘his’ geliştirmedir.’Dil edinimi’ dilbilgisi veya yapı odaklı değildir, yani bilinç dışı süreçte edinilenlerin bilinçaltından ihtiyaç duyulduğu zaman söyleme dökülüp, dilin kullanılmasıdır. Akıcı ve kalıcı olan dil kullanımı bu süreçle elde edilir. ’Dil öğrenimi’ ise bilinçli bir süreçtir, kuralları bilme ve bu kurallar hakkında bol bol alıştırmalar yaparak, otomatik olarak bunları kullanmaktır. Kısacası ‘dil öğrenimi’ herhangi bir makineyi kullanmayı öğrenmek gibidir. Bu tür öğrenme ancak dilbilgisi testlerinde işe yarayabilir, akıcı ve doğal dil kullanımı sırasında dili bu yöntemle öğrenenlerin konuşulanları anlayabildiklerini ya da dilbilgisi sorularını yapabildiklerini ama kendilerini akıcı bir şekilde ifade edemediklerini gözlemlemekteyiz. Ayrıca yapıları ve kalıpları ezberleme yoluyla öğrenmek dilin çabuk unutulmasına neden olmaktadır. Dili doğal süreçte edinenlerse dili akıcı ve doğal olarak kullanabilmektedirler. Unutulmamalıdır ki, dil önce doğal olarak kazanılmalı; daha sonra dilbilgisi kurallarını öğrenme ve yazma çalışmalarıyla dili geliştirmeye devam etmek gerekmektedir. Bir başka deyişle dili formüle dayanan birşeyi öğretir gibi öğretmemeliyiz. Yapılması gereken yeni doğan bir çocuğun dili kazanma sürecini izlemektir. Bir dili öğrenen hangi yaşta olursa olsun aynı ana dilini öğrenen bir bebekmiş gibi düşünmeliyiz. Nasıl yeni doğan bir bebek ana dilini öğrenirken sessiz dönemden geçerse, ikinci bir dil üstünde çalışan kişi de önce izler ve dinler; tüm bunları bir süre biriktirdiği sessiz bir dönemden geçer. Bir süre sonra da kısa kalıplar kullanmaya başlar. Zaman içinde bu kısa kalıplara ya da kelimelere kendi bildiği diğer kelimeleri ekleyerek yeni cümleler kurar. Tam tersini yapıp yeni dil öğrenmeye başlayan kişiye formüller halinde dil kalıpları öğretmek, dilbigisi kurallarına dayanan bol bol alıştırma yaptırmak kişinin dili doğal edinimini engellediği gibi başarılı sonuçlara ulaşmasını da engeller.<br />
Diğer ünlü bir dilbilimci olan Noam Chomsky de, dil olgusunun ancak dile has bir sistemin varlığıyla açıklanabileceğini vurgulamaktadır. ‘Dil Edinim Cihazı’ adını verdiği bu sistem doğuştan gelen, her bireyde bulunan; anlaşılmaz ve karmaşık dilbigisi kurallarını yerine koyabilen içgüdüsel bir sistemdir. Chomsky, Dil Edinim Cihazını yetişkinlerin ikinci dili edinimlerinde kullanamayacaklarını iddia etmektedir. Krashen, Noam Chomsky’nin’ Dil Edinim Cihazı’ ile ilgili görüşlerine katılmaktadır. Ancak Krashen uygun ortam ve uyarıcılar oluşturulduğunda tüm yaş gruplarında Dil Edinim Cihazının harekete geçip ve ana dili edinimdeki süreçlerden geçerek kişinin yeni dili kazanımını gerçekleştirebilecegini belirtir. Dil edinim Cihazının harekete geçmesi için ilk olarak dinleme ve okuma becerileri üstüne yoğunlaşılmalıdır. Konuşma ve yazma bol miktarda dinleme ve okuma faaliyetlerinin doğal bir uzantısı olarak kendini gösterecektir. Sessiz dönem olarak nitelendirilen yeni doğan bebeklerde 1,5-2 yılı kapsayan, yetişkinlerde anlama ve kavrama kapasitelerinin yüksekligine paralel olarak daha kısalan bu dönem; mümkün olduğunca çok anlamlı mesajlar içeren, vücud dili, mimikler ve görsellerle desteklenen dinleme ve okuma deneyimleriyle verilmelidir. Krashen, Dil Edinim Cihazının uygun ortam ve uyarıcılarla tetiklendiğinde tekrar aktif hale geçtigini savunmaktadır.Hangi yaşta olursa olsun başka bir ülkede yaşamak zorunda kalan insanların kısa bir süre sonra o ülkenin dilini öğrendikleri gözlenmektedir. Bu da Krashen’ın iddiasını doğrulayan bir örnektir.<br />
Dilbilgisi merkezli yabancı dil eğitim programlarıyla aldığımız yol ortada, dilbilgisi testlerinde başarılı olan ama akıcı ve doğal olarak dili kullanamayan, öğrendiklerini kısa bir süre ara verince unutan bireyler. Dil dersinin temelleri sınavlardan iyi not almak için ezberlenen kelimelerden ya da kalıplardan oluşmamalıdır.<br />
Yeni bir dil hangi yaşta olursa olsun edinilir, yeterki Dil Edinim Cihazlarının aktif hale geçebileceği doğal ortamlar yaratıp, öncelikle bol bol dinleme ve okuma deneyimleri içeren dil edinim programlarını oluşturalım.<br />

Aslında onlar okuyorlar ama okuma formatları degişik; tabletlerin, cep telefonlarının, Ipodların, blogların ve sosyal medyanın olduğu bir hayatları var, onları kullanarak okuyorlarsa biz de onları kullanarak onlara istediklerimizi okutabiliriz.<br />
Dünya nüfusunun %50’si 30 yaşın altında ve bu genç insanların  iletişim araçları da, kendini ifade etme şekilleri de, bilgiye ulaşma yolları da bildigimiz yöntemlerden farklı. Ansiklopedilerin yerine wikipedia,youtube, google&#8230; Mektup ya da e-posta yerine twitter ve facebook gibi sosyal medya uygulamaları. Gazetelerden okunan makaleler yerine bloglardan okunan makaleler. Kitaplar yerine e-kitaplar. Kartonlar üstüne hazırlanmış projeler yerine interaktif online posterler. Dizüstü bilgisayarlar yerine tabletler. İşe başvururken verilen özgeçmişin yazılı olduğu evraklar yerine online özgeçmişler.Yakın zaman önce hayatımıza giren bu yenilikleri kullanmayı seçmek gibi bir lüksümüz yok, bunları kullanmak zorunluluk.<br />
Biz öğretmenler bu yeni dijital dünyaya ayak uydururken, öğrencilerimize en iyi şekilde ulaşabilmek için kendimizi ve tüm sistemi  bu yeniliklere göre güncellemeliyiz. Eğitim sistemimiz de bu yeni dijital dünyanın üstesinden gelebilecek, donanımlı bireyler yetiştirebilecek programlar içermelidir.</p>
<p><strong>DERSLERDE KULLANILABİLECEK SOSYAL MEDYA ALANLARI VE BAZI İNTERAKTİF UYGULAMALAR</strong><br />
<strong>Twitter:</strong> Olabilecek en kısa ve anlamlı işbirliği platformu. Bir öğretmen olarak twitter benim için dünyanın her yerinden eğitimcilerle çok hızlı ve anında paylaşımda bulunabildiğim küresel bir öğretmenler odası. Aynı etkileşimi öğretmenlerle öğrencileri ya da  farklı okulların aynı sınıf öğrencileri arasında etkili bir paylaşım aracı olarak kullanmak hiç de zor değil.<br />
<strong>Facebook:</strong> Bir öğretmenin liderliğinde; ortak bir sınıf sayfası yaratıp, yapılan tüm çalışmaların paylaşabileceği, yorumların eklenebileceği bir alan. Öğrencilerinize sorun bakalım günde kaç saatlerini Facebook’ta geçiriyorlar. Niye bu kadar etkin kullandıkları bir alanı dersler için kullanmıyoruz ki?<br />
<strong>Blog:</strong> Sınıf blogları üstünden çalışmak dijital yerliler için hem çok keyifli  hem de motive edici bir uygulama. Üstelik  internet bağlantısı olan her yerden öğrencilerinizin çalışmalarını takip edip, yorumlarda bulanabileceğiniz bir alan.<br />
<strong>Glogster:</strong> Her konuda online poster hazırlanabilecek bir uygulama. Glog üstünden hazırladıgınız proje posterlerini twitter ya da facebook ta paylaşabilir, blogunuza da ekleyebilirsiniz.<br />
<strong>Wiki:</strong> Sınıflar arası ya da okullar arası ortak projeler üstünde çalışmak için kullanabilecek bir tür web uygulaması.</p>
<p>Dijital hikaye sunumları,  filmler ve karikatürler yaratabileceğiniz linkler ve daha bir dolu uygulama. Tüm bu uygulamaları ve bilgi kaynaklarını en hızlı şekilde paylaşabileceğimiz sosyal medyanın gücüyse tartışılmayacak kadar hızlı ve etkili. Biz ve öğrencilerimiz bu yeni dijital dünyanın neresindeyiz ve ne kadarını eğitim programlarımızın içine alabildik diye bir kez daha gözden geçirmeliyiz.<br />

I always love the concept of time capsule. There are many ways to make a time capsule but this one is just for the digital age. ‘Life In A Day’ is like a time capsule to show future generations what it was like to be alive on the 24th of July, 2010.<br />
On this date, thousands of people around the world uploaded videos of their day to YouTube to take part in Life in a Day, Ridley Scott and Kevin Macdonald took 80,000 submissions and 4,500 hours of footage from 192 countries and created  ‘Life in a Day’ which is a documentary film about a single day on earth. <em>SILENT VIEWING</em><br />
Kids watch a short scene with the sound off and they ask questions about the scene in pair: Where are they? What are they doing? Who are they? etc.<br />
<em>DUBBING ACTIVITY</em><br />
Kids watch a short scene with the sound off and imagine what the characters are talking about and create their own dialogue in pairs and then they can act out the scene.<br />
<em>FORWARD VIEWING</em><br />
If it’s a short movie clip or segment, play the video fast forward and kids try to guess what happens. After watching the whole video, they can compare it with their predictions.<br />
<em>SOUND ON – VISION OFF ACTIVITY</em><br />
Give handouts including pictures of different scenes.Kids listen the vision off scenes and choose the right picture according to what they hear.<br />
<em>MEMORY GAME</em>(Who remembered the most?)<br />
Kids watch the scene and then they talk and write about what they have seen as pair work.Pairs can get together with another pair and compare lists.<br />
<em>CHARACTER INTERVIEWS</em><br />
After watching a video, kids work in a group and ask questions to the character about his/her behaviour and feelings.<br />
<em>ACT IT OUT</em><br />
They can act out the script of a scene.<br />
<em>WHO SAYS</em><br />
Give some quotations to the kids in a pair. Then they try to remember who says.<br />
<em>WHITE LIES</em><br />
A paragraph from a short scene are given to the kids but some of the facts are changed. They can find the statements that are not true.<br />

They can change the end of the film or they can write their own ending before watching the end of the film.<br />

<p>I’ve just finished reading the Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson and this post is just a small tribute to the one who gave us power to create.I’m a huge Apple fan and I’m also an admirer of Steve’s vision. People like Steve Jobs, inspire other people, not only to create things but also  to change lives.<br />

<em>&#8216;The Animal School&#8217;</em> is the most awesome story that I&#8217;ve read recently. The story reminds me how important to consider kids&#8217; individuals strengths and learning differences when teachers present their lessons.<br />

<em>Once upon a time the animals decided they must do something heroic to meet the problems of a “new world” so they organized a school. They had adopted an activity curriculum consisting of running, climbing, swimming and flying. To make it easier to administer the curriculum, all the animals took all the subjects.</p>
<p>The duck was excellent in swimming. In fact, better than his instructor. But he made only passing grades in flying and was very poor in running. Since he was slow in running, he had to stay after school and also drop swimming in order to practice running. This was kept up until his webbed feet were badly worn and he was only average in swimming. But average was acceptable in school so nobody worried about that, except the duck.</p>
<p>The rabbit started at the top of the class in running but had a nervous breakdown because of so much makeup work in swimming.</p>
<p>The squirrel was excellent in climbing until he developed frustration in the flying class where his teacher made him start from the ground up instead of the treetop down. He also developed a “charlie horse” from overexertion and then got a C in climbing and D in running.</p>
<p>The eagle was a problem child and was disciplined severely. In the climbing class, he beat all the others to the top of the tree but insisted on using his own way to get there.</p>
<p>At the end of the year, an abnormal eel that could swim exceeding well and also run, climb and fly a little had the highest average and was valedictorian.</p>
<p>The prairie dogs stayed out of school and fought the tax levy because the administration would not add digging and burrowing to the curriculum. They apprenticed their children to a badger and later joined the groundhogs and gophers to start a successful private school.</em><br />

<p>You&#8217;re unique just like everybody else.Each kid is unique just like you.If you say some of the kids can&#8217;t learn, you should change the way you teach.Most of the kids are labeled with learning disable.The kids have gifts don&#8217;t receive much reinforcement for them in schools.Let&#8217;s watch the video below and see the labeled kids who show gifts in other intelligences.I&#8217;m sure that they&#8217;ll be the musicians, artists, naturalists, designers, architects, philosophers, dancers who will enrich the world that we live in.<br />
